In some ways, shopping has become a lazy exercise. We do not need to stir from the sofa to get the hottest trends into our wardrobes. It’s raining, it’s cold, you need something to wear for your best friends’ birthday next Saturday but you could not bear the elements. No rain gear will do. The simple solution – open the laptop and get every designer and high street store style on your lap. But, we have to be conscious of a few things.

Down to a T

Of all the catwalk trends, celebrity influences and High Street offerings, if I was to pick my favourite item of all time, it would be a t-shirt. Plain and simple. It’s a core item that no wardrobe should be without. You may think that there are plenty of items that should form part of your capsule closet but think of it like this. Blazer and jeans, leggings and sneakers, summer skirt and sandals, no matter what the outfit, the basis of all of the aforementioned, is a t-shirt. Now I’m not talking about a top emblazoned with your favourite 1980s rock band (although I have a brilliant one with Debbie Harry on it) my advice is to keep it plain this summer and stick to styles such as a fitted cotton “v” or round neck, sleeveless or cap sleeved, waist or hip length. The simplicity of the T is what makes it genius. To get you summer ready, there are lot’s of ways to style up the minimalist, most unadorned of all fashion staples.

The catwalk likes to tease us. Yes, tease us and our wallets. But there is something to be said about an investment in designer clothing every once in a while, that is why they invented piggy banks! Eye spy with my stylish eye, I see a bag by Tom Ford that has my name written all over it. So I am putting away a little of my earnings every month until there comes a time when I can rejoice in buying the bag that I will have forever. And it’ll probably form part of my children’s inheritance. Designer clobber is at the upper end of the price scale; but it can command a higher price for several reasons which we, as consumers, don’t always understand. The design, the labour intensive craftsmanship, the highest quality fabrics and finishings all contribute to the final piece that we see the likes of Karly Kloss or Jordan Dunn strut down the catwalk each season. So why not explore what they have to offer? For inspiration, if nothing else.

A little bit of luxury…

Best Christmas gift guide ever

Having had an enjoyable stroll through Galway city and county, it is abundantly clear that Galway literally has everything that anyone could possible want for Christmas, and at a price that despite the budget, we can afford. Also shopping in Galway is fun! And the shops are making every effort to meet our limited pockets by having bargains and beautifully decorated shops. Then after a hectic few hours shopping, and everyone sorted, a hot mulled cider, or a cool German beer in the Bier Keller, at the Eyre Square Christmas market tent, is a blast! Her are some of my suggestions:

G is for getting glam

Fashion is cyclical by nature and tends to revisit past trends rather than invent new ones. Now this is a positive thing – if you had a little black dress from years ago or your grandma had some costume jewellery that you happened to find in her attic, well you are in for a treat this season as old fashioned glamour is back.

Free shopping shuttle lets Galway shoppers enjoy Zara and H&M at Athlone Towncentre

Big brand shopping has never been closer to Galway with the new M6 motorway connecting the city with Athlone. The introduction of this route has opened up a whole new shopping experience to fashionistas in the west with big brand names like Zara and H&M now less than 40 minutes from Galway city. Athlone Towncentre has now made it even more convenient with its new shopping shuttle bus initiative, a complimentary service for Galway shoppers which will run next Saturday June 25.

How to wear this season’s trends — seventies

Inspired by iconic movies and celebrities such as Diane Keaton in Interiors, the seventies styles are this season’s hottest trend.
